Coccydynia, also known as tailbone pain, is pain and tenderness associated with the tip of the tailbone. The coccyx is the technical term for this bone, which is anatomically between the buttocks.

Coccydynia occurs from falls, childbirth or sports injury. But can also sometimes happen spontaneously.

It typically presents as dull and achy, with activities such as sitting causing the pain to become worse.

Often individuals with coccydynia are advised to use a well-padded seat and avoid long periods of sitting.

Treatment for tailbone pain includes therapy with chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture as well as exercise prescription.
