How Does Therapeutic Ultrasound Work

To use the ultrasound machine, your practitioner will first apply gel to the injured area. This gel will assist the ultrasound wand in gliding over the area smoothly. Once the gel has been applied your practitioner will move the ultrasound wand in small circles over the affected area for a set duration of time. This wand transmits sound waves to the area which causes vibrations in the affected tissue. These vibrations promote the production of collagen, which accelerates tissue recovery, and produces heat.

Will I Feel Anything?

It is very uncommon to feel any sensation changes during an ultrasound. While some individuals feel a warm/heat sensation or tingling, these sensations should never be painful and in the case that they are notify your practitioner immediately.
