Iliotibial BandIliotibial Band Syndrome, also known as IT band syndrome is an injury common in runners and affects the connective tissues that located on the outside thigh and knee.

The iliotibial band acts as a stabilizer for the knee and through overuse, becomes swollen and tender.

IT Band syndrome may stem from a combined result of poor training habits, limited flexibility, and mechanical imbalances of parts of the body including the low back, pelvis, hips and knees.

Anatomical issues that cause IT band syndrome can include a length leg differential, bowed legs, or abnormal tilt to the pelvis.

All of these issues can lead to injury, inflammation and tenderness of the IT band.
